Overview

The MiiCoffee DF54 is the newer, smaller sibling of the DF64 — a single-dose flat-burr grinder built around 54mm burrs instead of 64mm. The downsize is deliberate: smaller footprint, lower motor draw, and a price under $250 that puts it in the gap between hand grinders and the mid-tier electrics.

What the DF54 gets right out of the box is the workflow most DF64 buyers end up modding toward. The integrated plasma ionizer kills static without an aftermarket bellows, retention measures under 0.1g without a tap, and the stepless dial reaches espresso-fine without the gritty range some DF64 units ship with. For users who do not want to learn a modding scene, the DF54 is the more polished pick at a similar price.

The trade-off is burr size. 54mm produces a slightly more bimodal particle distribution than 64mm at filter coarseness — the cup is cleaner than a conical of the same price, but not as separated as the DF64 or a Niche Zero. For espresso, the difference is much smaller; for filter coffee on light roasts, the DF64 (when properly aligned) still has an edge. For most households running 1-3 shots a day with occasional pour-over, the DF54 is the right level of grinder for the money.
